At the Annual Town Meeting on 24th May, Councillor John Rumsey was elected as Mayor of Leominster 2021/22. Mrs Elizabeth Rumsey will be Mayoress and Cllr Trish Marsh was appointed Deputy Mayor.
Cllr Rumsey sees it as a great honour to represent the town and is very much looking forward to supporting his two chosen charities: Services for Independent Living and Marches Family Network.
He takes over from Cllr Clive Thomas, who served as mayor for two years.
During his mayoral year, Cllr Rumsey will chair the steering group for the High Street Heritage Action Zone project which will see the refurbishment of the public realm in the town centre and the allocation of grants for the repair and restoration of historic buildings and shop fronts in the centre of town.
He will be championing public transport provision, especially in the surrounding rural area.
Cllr Rumsey also sees the possibilities in embracing the current increase in tourism as an opportunity for the much needed growth in and around Leominster. This in turn will promote local enterprise and encourage future of tourism in our area.
